On April 19th, The Julie Ruin will release Brightside b/w In the Picture, a limited edition 7' single that will be available at independent record shops nationwide as part of Record Store Day. Both songs, which are previously unreleased, were recorded at Oscilloscope Studios during the sessions that yielded the band's debut record, Run Fast, and were mixed by singer Kathleen Hanna. The single is limited to 2000 copies and will be out via The Julie Ruin Records, which is manufactured and distributed by Dischord Direct. As the lead singer of Bikini Kill, Hanna was one of the most prominent voices of the Riot Grrrl movement during the early '90s. After that group disbanded, she released one solo album, titled Julie Ruin, and formed the electro-pop trio, Le Tigre, which released three full-length records before going on hiatus in 2006. In 2010, Hanna formed The Julie Ruin with bassist and former Bikini Kill bandmate Kathi Wilcox, keyboardist Kenny Mellman, guitarist Sara Landeau, and drummer Carmine Covelli. The group released its debut full-length, Run Fast, in September of 2013 on The Julie Ruin Records. This spring, The Julie Ruin will make its first trip to Europe '“ including dates in the UK, Spain, Belgium, and Germany, among other countries '“ and will embark on a brief tour of the Northeastern US and Canada.
