Plant Life's singer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Jack Splash doesn't just travel to one place and time. He zigzags through all points in between the late 1960s and the distant future, touching on Sly Stone-style funk, prime Prince, '80s disco, rap, and more, and filtering it all through the sheen of the same production wizardry he's brought to releases by John Legend, Alicia Keys, and Beyonce. The Man in Purple might be the firmest touchstone here, but "Rollerskate Jam" namechecks and nods to De La Soul, while "Tear the House Down" is angrily anti-Bush.
